Renowned Nigerian socialite Adebisi Edionseri, popularly known as Cash Madam, has passed away at the age of 89.

Her son, Adebayo Adebowale, confirmed in a statement on behalf of the family that she died on Sunday after a brief illness.

A prominent figure in Nigeria’s social scene, Cash Madam was celebrated for her fashion, entrepreneurial success, and flamboyant lifestyle.

Juju legend Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey gave her the nickname “Cash Madam” in the 1980s, recognizing her financial influence.

She had been a millionaire since the late 1970s and was widely known for her generosity to musicians.

Fuji icon Sikiru Ayinde Barrister dedicated a 47-minute track, Cash Madam, to her in his 2004 album, Reality.

Eulogizing his mother, Adebowale described her as a woman of great business acumen, recalling how she would transport large sums of money—coins and notes—to Barclays Bank (now Union Bank), where she was allocated a private room and a team of cashiers to handle her transactions.

Her funeral, conducted according to Islamic rites, will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday at her residence in GRA, Ibara, Abeokuta.

“Her life was a shining example of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith.

“She touched many lives through her wisdom, kindness, and dedication to family and community, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations,” her son said.
