A Federal High Court has ordered the immediate release of Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, who was detained over a defamation case involving fellow artist Burna Boy.
The court’s decision came shortly after socialite Cubana Chief Priest expressed his willingness to assist in securing Speed Darlington’s release.
Reports indicate that Abubakar Marshal, Esq. has been appointed as surety for the singer’s release.
Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter), on Monday.
He stated: “The Federal High Court has directed the Nigerian Police to comply with the order to release Speed Darlington immediately, pending the hearing of the substantive matter. The court further directs Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to stand as surety to Akpi.”
With this ruling, Speed Darlington is expected to regain his freedom while the legal proceedings continue.
