The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has dismissed the allegations against Dr. Wahab Azeez, Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, as politically motivated.

The student body has called on the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to intervene and ensure due process in the ongoing leadership crisis.

Dr. Azeez, reappointed for a second term on May 26, 2023, was asked to step aside in July 2024 following controversies linked to the enactment of the amended Federal Colleges of Education Act (2023), which introduced a five-year single term limit.

However, he maintains that the law does not apply retroactively to his tenure.

NANS argues that the dispute is harming students’ academic progress and welfare.

It urges Dr. Alausa to prioritize the students’ interests while calling on aggrieved staff members to embrace dialogue and avoid further disruptions.

The association described the allegations as an orchestrated effort by disgruntled staff members to undermine Dr. Azeez’s leadership.

It also highlighted his contributions, including the construction of the institution’s first two-story Students’ Union building, as evidence of his commitment to the college’s development.

NANS reaffirmed its commitment to defending students’ rights and ensuring that justice prevails.
