Airtel Nigeria has joined calls for a telecom tariff review, citing a 300% surge in operational costs over the past two years.
CEO Dinesh Balsingh stressed that an adjustment is necessary to maintain service quality and support Nigeria’s digital transformation.
“For over a decade, tariffs have remained static despite rising expenses.
“To sustain high-quality services and meet growing digital demands, realigning our pricing structure is essential,” he stated.
Balsingh emphasized the increasing demand for digital services in education, healthcare, and banking, noting that significant infrastructure investments are required to ensure reliable connectivity.
“These investments come at a cost, which must be shared proportionally to guarantee long-term viability,” he added.
Airtel argued that a tariff revision would enhance service delivery, expand network coverage, and support security upgrades and advanced technologies.
Reaffirming the industry’s commitment to inclusivity, Balsingh stated, “Our priority is to ensure no one is left behind in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.”
