The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 17 individuals in connection with the murder of Uromchi Okorocha in Ebonyi State.

Okorocha was accused of witchcraft by youths in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area, and was allegedly lynched.

Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that the suspects apprehended Okorocha and set him ablaze before police from the Uwanna Division could intervene.

He condemned the act, stressing that the suspects ignored legal procedures and resorted to vigilante justice.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation on January 4, police in Imo State engaged suspected kidnappers in a gunfight, killing two and rescuing four hostages in Ohaji Local Government Area.

Officers recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, denounced both incidents, urging citizens to report crimes to law enforcement rather than taking the law into their own hands.

He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to public safety and called for greater community cooperation.
