Renowned Nigerian gospel artist and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has been invited to lead worship at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

The event, a long-standing tradition, will be held on January 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C., just hours before Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.

Bassey, a celebrated worship leader from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, announced the invitation via Instagram, stating, “Let’s raise a sound in America. See you on January 20, 2025,” alongside a promotional banner for the event.

The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast, a non-partisan, faith-based gathering, is held every four years to offer spiritual support for the incoming administration.

This year’s edition, hosted by Reverend Merrie Turner, will take place at the Waldorf Astoria Presidential Ballroom in Washington, D.C.

Among the notable speakers are Dr. Alveda King, civil rights activist and niece of Martin Luther King Jr., and Pastor Mario Bramnick, a prominent evangelical leader.

The event is part of the formal proceedings leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Bassey, known globally for worship anthems like Imela, Onise Iyanu, and Olowogbogboro, has played a pivotal role in gospel music, particularly through his viral Hallelujah Challenge.

His influence was further recognized in 2024 when the Mayor of Albany, New York, declared October 6 as “Pastor Nathaniel Bassey Day,” honoring his contributions to ministry.

His invitation to this high-profile event underscores his global impact on gospel music.

The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast will serve as a spiritual prelude to the inauguration, reflecting the deep faith traditions often associated with U.S. presidential ceremonies.
