The Nigerian military is considering collaboration with local arms manufacturers to harness their expertise in firearm and military-grade equipment production while combating illegal arms proliferation.
During an operational visit to frontline troops in Plateau State’s Operation Safe Haven, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa emphasized this strategy while inspecting locally produced arms seized during military operations.
His visit began at the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, where he was received by the General Officer Commanding.
He later proceeded to Sector 8 in Mangu to assess military hardware and operational readiness at a forward operation base.
Addressing the troops, he urged intensified efforts against criminal hideouts and renewed commitment to counterinsurgency operations in 2025.
General Musa also assured troops of enhanced resources, including advanced weaponry, vehicles, and improved welfare.
Expressing interest in engaging manufacturers from the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, he reiterated the need for professionalism, discipline, and adherence to human rights standards in military operations.
