Senator Adams Oshiomhole has likened the appointment of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to a football club losing its star player to a rival without a transfer fee.

Speaking at a New Year luncheon hosted by Wike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Oshiomhole thanked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for “handing over” Wike to the All Progressives Congress (APC), without any political conditions.

“Thank you to PDP for giving us Nyesom Wike to help fix Abuja.

“In football, when a club gives up its best player, it often comes with a heavy price. But in this case, PDP let go of Wike without asking for a transfer fee,” Oshiomhole said.

The former Edo State governor noted that Wike, a PDP stalwart, played a crucial role in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy in the 2023 general election despite belonging to the opposition party.

Oshiomhole commended Wike’s leadership in the FCT, saying his role requires making tough decisions and enforcing laws for the city’s development.

“We may not be willing to return you, and if necessary, we would even create a toll gate to prevent that,” he quipped.

He further lauded Wike’s efforts in transforming the capital city, emphasizing the need for discipline, rule of law, and urban renewal.
