The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Mallam Shehu Dikko, celebrated the New Year by reaching out to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), at the Durumi IDP Camp in Abuja, highlighting the role of sports in rebuilding lives.
Represented by Technical Assistants Lanre Ogunjobi and Barr. Uche George Egbe, Dikko reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to grassroots sports development, emphasizing its benefits for physical and mental well-being.
“If a talent with high potential is identified anywhere in Nigeria, including IDP camps, the NSC will provide the necessary support to nurture it.
“Everyone deserves an opportunity to shine, regardless of their circumstances,” he stated.
As part of the initiative, the NSC donated sports kits, footballs, and equipment to encourage youth participation in sports.
It also provided food, beverages, nutritional supplements, sanitary products, and childcare items to support the camp’s residents.
Camp PRO Umar Gola and Women’s Leader Madam Liyatu Ayuba expressed gratitude, calling for more sports facilities in the FCT.
Dikko’s focus on talent discovery is well established. As former Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), he helped nurture Nura Mohammed, an IDP camp talent who later played for El Kanemi Warriors and represented Nigeria at the 2018 CHAN Championship at just 15.
