Germany has introduced an online visa application portal, allowing Nigerians and other applicants worldwide to apply for national visas digitally.

Announcing the initiative on January 1, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office said the Consular Services Portal now supports online applications for 28 visa categories, including work, study, and family reunification.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock hailed the move as a game-changer for Germany’s economy, which faces a critical shortage of skilled workers.

“Every year, Germany lacks at least 400,000 skilled workers across industries like healthcare, technology, and skilled trades.

“We must eliminate long paper applications and delays to attract top talent,” Baerbock stated.

The digital visa process, she added, is designed to be modern, efficient, and secure—ensuring Germany remains a competitive destination for global talent.
