With just two days remaining in 2024, 28 Nigerian states and the federal government have yet to finalize and sign their 2025 budgets.
Only eight states: Abia, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, Anambra, Edo, Bauchi, and Enugu have enacted their appropriation bills ahead of the new fiscal year.
Enugu leads with the highest state budget at ₦971 billion, followed by Kaduna with ₦790 billion and Abia with ₦750.2 billion.
Other approved budgets include Katsina (₦692.2 billion), Edo (₦675 billion), Anambra (₦606 billion), Sokoto (₦526 billion), and Bauchi (₦467 billion).
At the federal level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the ₦49.7 trillion 2025 budget to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024. It passed the first and second readings within 24 hours and is awaiting final approval.
The remaining states face growing pressure to meet the deadline, raising concerns over potential disruptions to fiscal planning and governance in the upcoming year.
