Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, has announced a price hike for its services in Nigeria, effective immediately for new customers and from January 27, 2025, for existing users.

Under the new pricing structure, Standard (Residential), plans will cost ₦75,000, Mobile – Regional (Roam Unlimited), ₦167,000, and Mobile – Global (Global Roam), ₦717,000.

In an email to subscribers, Starlink attributed the increase to its efforts to enhance network infrastructure and maintain high-quality service.

Subscribers dissatisfied with the changes can cancel their subscriptions at any time, the company stated.

This follows a similar price hike in September 2024, which raised rates by 97%.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), initially threatened sanctions but later backtracked, leaving questions about regulatory oversight.

While Starlink has been lauded for expanding internet access to underserved areas since its Nigerian launch in December 2022, critics argue the new pricing model is prohibitive for many Nigerians facing economic hardship.
