Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has cleared over ₦1 billion in arrears owed to staff of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), signaling his commitment to revitalizing healthcare in the state.
The payments, accumulated over several years, aim to resolve financial challenges faced by healthcare workers and enhance service delivery.
The cleared arrears include promotion benefits, hazard allowances, relativity allowances for honorary consultants, accouterment arrears, and death benefits.
Additionally, the governor approved ₦398 million for revised monthly payments under the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), and Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), bringing the total payment to ₦1.005 billion.
This intervention is part of Governor Alia’s broader agenda to motivate healthcare workers and improve healthcare services for Benue residents.
Beyond healthcare, his administration has resolved other long-standing financial issues, such as clearing 35 months of Earned and Academic Earned Allowances for civil servants and pensioners, further underscoring his resolve to enhance the welfare of the state’s workforce.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, described the move as a milestone achievement, calling on citizens to support the administration’s vision of transforming Benue into a model state.
