The Federal Government has commenced the deployment of 100% Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), buses for passenger shuttle services at airports nationwide.
The first batch of CNG-powered buses was received at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, by officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), led by its Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Festus Keyamo, stated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to reduce carbon emissions and meet global climate targets.
“This fleet of CNG buses will commence passenger movement at all our airports immediately,” the minister said, emphasizing their eco-friendly design, zero emissions, and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
The deployment, Keyamo noted, underscores the President’s commitment to reducing reliance on petrol and diesel while promoting sustainable CNG-powered vehicles.
It is also part of the government’s measures to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
According to the Managing Director of Lanre Shittu Motors (LSM), Taiwo Shittu, the buses are available in two configurations: a 31-seater for airport shuttles and a 54-seater for mass transit.
Equipped with air conditioning, viewing screens, and charging stations, the buses aim to provide a modern and efficient transportation solution for Lagos and beyond.
