The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has announced scheduled power outages in Abuja this weekend to carry out essential maintenance at two critical transmission substations.

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 28, 2024, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, said the maintenance activities aim to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure.

On Saturday, December 28, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., TCN engineers will service a 60MVA power transformer and associated switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, resulting in a four-hour outage in Gwagwalada and surrounding communities.

On Sunday, December 29, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., another maintenance session will take place at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation, involving the servicing of a 60MVA power transformer.

Areas affected include Wuye, EFCC headquarters, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola factory, Idu Railway Station, Citec Estate, and Life Camp.

“These maintenance efforts are vital to ensuring the integrity of the power grid and preventing unplanned outages,” Mbah stated, emphasizing that the proactive measures will improve electricity supply to the affected areas.

TCN apologized for the inconvenience, especially during the festive season, and assured residents that the maintenance is necessary to sustain reliable electricity delivery.
