The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has disclosed that 190 flights were cancelled in September and October 2024 due to various operational challenges.
Acting Director-General Chris Najomo shared the figures during an engagement with airlines on Friday.
According to Najomo, 5,291 flights were operated in September, with 2,434 delays and 79 cancellations, while October recorded 5,513 flights, 2,791 delays, and 111 cancellations.
He acknowledged that some disruptions, such as those caused by weather and technical issues, are inevitable.
However, he criticized airlines for poor management of such incidents, emphasizing the need for professionalism and respect for passengers’ rights, particularly as the harmattan season brings additional weather-related challenges.
Najomo reminded airlines of their obligations under the Nigeria Civil Aviation (Consumer Protection), Regulations, 2023, which mandate appropriate handling of flight disruptions to minimize passenger inconvenience.
The announcement comes amidst increasing concerns over the reliability of domestic flight operations in Nigeria.
