The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has warned politicians and interest groups against attempts to discredit the agency as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Thursday in Abuja, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale said the commission had uncovered plans by paid operatives and disgruntled elements to launch media attacks against the agency and its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. He said the campaigns are built on false claims of political bias aimed at intimidating the EFCC and weakening its anti corruption drive.
Oyewale said the commission would not be deterred by such pressure, stressing that it operates strictly within the provisions of its Establishment Act.
The EFCC reiterated that it is non partisan and investigates corruption cases involving individuals across party lines. It added that all suspects will be treated in line with the law and urged Nigerians to see the presumption of innocence as a constitutional principle, not a defence of any person under investigation.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy over allegations of gross misconduct.

The move signals a fresh escalation in the prolonged political crisis in the state, rooted in the rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The crisis deepened after a majority of lawmakers, led by Amaewhule, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress on December 5, 2025. Fubara later also announced his defection to the APC.
Despite the party switches, tensions between the governor and Wike have persisted, with most lawmakers reportedly remaining loyal to the former governor.
