Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have neutralized a notorious bandit known as “Al’jan” in Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State, bringing relief to terrorized communities.
“Al’jan,” a Niger Republic native, rose from being a motorcycle taxi operator to a key figure in criminal networks after joining a gang led by Hassan Bamamu.
His intimate knowledge of the Tsafe region made him a key player in kidnappings, raids, and murders.
Counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama identified “Al’jan” as a central figure in multiple high-profile crimes, including the killings of Anas Umar Dan Kanti, Alhaji Musa Ille, and a Navy officer.
The bandit was eliminated three weeks ago during a joint operation near Mada and Yandoton Daji in Tsafe.
Residents of Bamamu village, his final hideout, confirmed his identity, marking the end of his reign of terror.
Communities along the Tsafe-Gusau road, previously plagued by attacks, have since expressed relief and optimism for lasting peace.
This operation underscores the success of coordinated efforts between security forces and local communities in addressing insecurity in Zamfara State.
