The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), approved 1,860 building plans in Abuja in 2024, out of 2,135 submissions received, according to the Director of the Department of Development Control, Tpl. Mukhtar Usman Galadima.
Speaking at a forum in Abuja, Galadima highlighted that the department’s activities generated 15,807 jobs, including 3,971 professional roles, 5,124 artisan positions, and 6,712 unskilled jobs.
To maintain the integrity of the Abuja Master Plan, Galadima noted that over 20,432 shanties and illegal structures were removed in collaboration with the Ministerial Joint Task Force.
In a bid to prevent building collapses, the department established a Post-Development Audit and Building Insurance Committee in partnership with sister agencies.
“These proactive steps ensure the city’s sustainability and enhance the safety of public and private buildings,” he said.
The director commended the department’s commitment to professionalism, citing staff achievements such as eight PhD holders and six more awaiting confirmation.
He also emphasized ongoing capacity building and increased staff participation in professional bodies to uphold global best practices.
Galadima expressed gratitude to the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for their visionary leadership and support.
