Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has been released from custody after meeting the bail conditions set by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti.
Farotimi was arrested earlier this month over allegations of defaming Afe Babalola, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).
His release was confirmed by activist Omoyele Sowore, who announced on X: “Dele Farotimi is no longer in Ekiti State prison facilities and is now heading home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”
The court granted bail at N30 million with strict conditions, including two sureties—one with property ownership, the submission of his passport, and a ban on granting media interviews.
Farotimi’s release ends his detention and marks a key moment in the ongoing legal proceedings.
He is currently en route to his Lagos residence.
