The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), will implement telecom tariff increases for calls, SMS, and internet services starting January 2025.

The adjustment, driven by rising operational costs due to inflation and naira devaluation, comes after lobbying by major telecom providers, including MTN Nigeria, Airtel, and 9Mobile.

Call rates are expected to rise by 40% to ₦15.40 per minute, SMS charges to ₦5.60, and a 1GB data plan to at least ₦1,400.

An NCC spokesperson confirmed the development, with an official announcement forthcoming.

This marks the first significant tariff adjustment in years, aimed at addressing the economic challenges affecting the sector.
