The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed government hospitals to provide free treatment for those injured in the tragic stampede at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred during a food distribution event for the less privileged and elderly, claimed at least 10 lives, including children, and left 10 others injured.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike expressed profound sympathy for the victims and assured that the FCT Administration would ensure adequate care for the injured.

He further directed that any public distribution of palliatives must obtain police clearance to avoid similar tragedies.

Commending the swift response of security agencies, Wike prayed for the repose of the deceased and strength for their grieving families.
