Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday inaugurated the redevelopment of the Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende, a project set to deliver 2,200 modern housing units for police officers and their families.
This initiative aims to address housing deficits and enhance the welfare of law enforcement personnel.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Sanwo-Olu described the project as transformative, providing a safe and conducive environment for officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
“For decades, this barracks sheltered officers who protected our state, but years of insufficient maintenance led to severe structural damage.
Today marks a new chapter for their welfare and the security of lives and property,” he said.
Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun lauded the project, calling it a significant milestone in the modernization of the Nigeria Police Force.
“This is another step forward in our journey towards excellence,” Egbetokun remarked.
In addition to the redevelopment, the governor handed over 260 new patrol vehicles and other security equipment to the police and supporting agencies.
Speaking at the Annual Town Hall on Security, Sanwo-Olu reiterated the state’s commitment to bolstering law enforcement capabilities.
“This tangible demonstration of support ensures our security agencies are better equipped to tackle emerging challenges,” he stated.
The dual initiatives underline Lagos State’s dedication to improving the welfare of its officers and enhancing public safety.
