The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the ownership of 762 plots of land in Abuja’s Maitama 1 District due to unpaid statutory fees.

Additionally, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has given 614 individuals and organizations a two-week ultimatum to settle their outstanding Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O), fees or face the loss of their land.

The FCTA’s notice emphasized that failure to pay for Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O), bills would result in the withdrawal of land rights, in accordance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which authorizes the minister to revoke occupancy rights for non-compliance.

Among the prominent figures affected by the revocation are the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation, SGF George Akume, Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, former governors Rochas Okorocha and Ben Ayade, Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno, and Speaker of the House Abbas Tajudeen.

Since taking office in August 2023, Wike has been firm on enforcing proper land administration in the FCT, reaffirming his commitment to accountability despite potential opposition.

“The rich will kick against some of our decisions, but anything that will help our people must be done,” he said.

The revocation and ultimatum reflect Wike’s determination to ensure transparency in land dealings within the capital.
