Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has clarified that the ongoing mining reforms in the state are designed to safeguard local resources and promote fairness, rather than target any individual or business.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Osogbo on Thursday, Adeleke, represented by Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye, outlined the legal and policy challenges in the mining sector and emphasized the administration’s commitment to equitable resource management.

“Our main priority is to block exploitation and ensure that our people and state benefit from their God-given resources,” Adeleke said.

Acknowledging the complexities of Nigeria’s federal system, the governor highlighted recurring jurisdictional disputes between federal and state authorities over solid minerals.

He commended the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals for enhancing regulatory coordination but called for clearer delineation of responsibilities to avoid conflicts.

“We are all aware of the policy and legal complications within our federal structure.

“The struggle to address these issues, especially in the solid minerals sector, is ongoing,” he noted.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed the state’s commitment to fostering business growth while protecting its resources.

He stressed that the reforms aim to create a system where investors, host communities, and the state can mutually benefit.

“Our reforms are not about targeting any individual or group. We are creating a fair system where businesses, host communities, and the state can thrive together,” Adeleke assured.

The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to implement transparent policies that ensure all stakeholders, including residents and investors, feel the positive impact of Osun’s resources.

His remarks underscore a commitment to building a mining sector that balances economic growth with resource protection and fairness.
