The Supreme Court will deliver a judgment today, December 16, 2024, on a case seeking to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and remove him from office.
The case, filed by Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru, a 2019 presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), claims Owuru is the rightful winner of the 2019 presidential election.
He is asking the court to declare him president.
Owuru’s suit challenges Tinubu’s eligibility, citing his alleged 1993 forfeiture of $460,000 in the United States over suspected drug-related activities.
He also accuses Tinubu of being a CIA operative, alleging further disqualifying factors.
The case lists former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as co-defendants.
Owuru contends that his earlier suit against Buhari was dismissed due to a procedural error, depriving him of justice.
He seeks Tinubu’s disqualification and his reinstatement as the legitimate 2019 election winner, arguing that Buhari’s administration and Tinubu’s presidency are illegitimate.
The court’s decision, expected today, could significantly impact Nigeria’s political dynamics.
