The Federal Government has mandated residents of its lands and properties in Lagos State to pay ground rent directly into government accounts.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Ahmed Dangiwa announced this during a visit to Banana Island on Friday.
Dangiwa stressed that the move aims to boost revenue for facility and infrastructure improvements on federal properties.
He clarified that while estate associations may collect fees for property maintenance, they are not authorized to retain or independently collect ground rent.
“Ground rent belongs to the Federal Government.
If associations collect it on our behalf, they must remit it fully. Failure to comply will lead to direct government intervention,” he stated.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to renovating and securing its assets nationwide while ensuring adherence to land and estate administration laws.
