The Federal Government (FG), has announced that many states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will implement the new national minimum wage starting January 2025.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, revealed this during a meeting with the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCN), on December 12, 2024, in Abuja.

Dingyadi noted that most states are progressing toward compliance, though four or five states lag behind.

The FCT has pledged January implementation, but local chapters are advocating for immediate adoption, a demand the Minister deemed challenging to meet.

He urged union leaders to report non-compliant entities for further investigation and assured that issues with the Office of the Accountant General and Federal Civil Service Commission would be resolved amicably.

Dingyadi concluded by thanking ASCN for their cooperation and emphasized dialogue over conflict in addressing labor concerns.
