President Bola Tinubu has unveiled plans to position Nigeria as a leading global agricultural exporter by 2025, underlining agriculture as a central pillar of his administration’s economic strategy.
The announcement was made during the Road to South-South National Convergence for the Renewed Hope Agenda at the Presidential Villa, where Tinubu’s message was delivered by the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh.
The president introduced the “Earn from the Soil” initiative, aimed at transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector from subsistence farming to a thriving, export-oriented industry.
The initiative is part of Tinubu’s broader vision to reduce Nigeria’s dependency on oil and drive economic prosperity through sustainable, non-oil sectors.
“This initiative is not just about farming; it’s a declaration that we are committed to creating a prosperous future for all Nigerians by harnessing our agricultural potential.
“By 2025, Nigeria will be a leading agricultural export nation, a beacon of opportunity for the world,” Tinubu said.
The “Earn from the Soil” project is designed to enhance food security and foster economic growth by opening up global markets for Nigerian produce.
Tinubu emphasized the South-South region’s strategic importance, which is rich in both natural resources and human potential, calling for more significant investment in agriculture and innovation to unlock the country’s full economic potential.
He also acknowledged the vital role of Nigeria’s youth and women in the success of the initiative, saying, “Your energy, creativity, and determination will be the driving forces behind this economic revolution.”
Hon. Gift Johnbull, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-South), highlighted the region’s underutilized agricultural and entrepreneurial resources, calling for partnerships that would position the South-South as a central player in Nigeria’s transformation.
“The South-South is the heart of Nigeria’s economic development.
“It holds untapped resources that, with strategic investment, can drive the nation’s growth,” Johnbull said.

With the “Earn from the Soil” initiative, President Tinubu’s administration is seeking to build a resilient economy driven by agriculture, empowering local communities and fostering partnerships that will ensure long-term prosperity.
