The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has intensified its crackdown on crime, recording remarkable successes in the fight against counterfeit currency, gunrunning, and kidnapping.
In an operation on December 8, 2024, police operatives in Gwale, Kano State, uncovered counterfeit currencies worth ₦129.5 billion, comprising $3,366,000 in fake US dollars, 51,970 counterfeit CFA francs, and ₦1,443,000 in counterfeit naira.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives arrested Nura Ibrahim, recovering ₦392,000 in counterfeit naira, $7,800 in fake US dollars, and five ATM cards.
Further investigations led to the arrest of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi.
In a separate operation on December 9, along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway, three suspected gunrunners—Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi—were intercepted.
A thorough search revealed 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one AK-47 round, marking a significant step in curbing arms proliferation.
Additionally, police operatives in Kebbi State rescued 36 kidnapped victims on December 8 along the Mairairai-Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
The victims, returning from their farms, were debriefed and assured of the police’s commitment to their safety during a follow-up visit to the community.
IGP Egbetokun reiterated the NPF’s unwavering resolve to combat all forms of crime, emphasizing zero tolerance for threats to national security and economic stability.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
