Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old suspect, Nwokpoku Emmanuel, in connection with kidnapping and armed robbery activities.
Emmanuel, along with his gang, was reportedly involved in the abduction of a victim from a neighboring state.
After holding the victim hostage, the gang allegedly collected ₦15 million in ransom before releasing the individual.
Additionally, the gang made off with the victim’s red Mercedes Benz GLE 450, which was later recovered by police operatives at MCC Junction, Onitsha.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.
He further revealed that efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang, including their leader, identified as “Ebuka.”
“The operatives have successfully recovered the victim’s vehicle and are now focusing on arresting other members of the gang,” Ikenga said.
The arrest forms part of the police’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on kidnapping and robbery in Anambra State.
Investigations are still ongoing.
