The Anglican community in Nnewi, Anambra State, is seeking divine intervention following the disappearance of retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev. Godwin Okpala, and his driver.

The duo vanished on Friday morning while en route to Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area.

Efforts to locate them, their vehicle, or establish contact have so far been unsuccessful, leaving the church and the community deeply troubled.

In response, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, issued a prayer directive on Saturday, urging members to pray for their safe return.

“This is a time for faith and collective prayers,” Obi emphasized.

He further confirmed the incident but referred additional inquiries to the diocesan communication board.

A representative of the board disclosed that the church had alerted the authorities and the police to the situation.

“We are hopeful and trusting God for their safe return,” the representative noted.

However, Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that no official report on the matter had been received.

“There is no such report before us,” he said.

As the church rallies in prayer, members remain hopeful for the swift and safe recovery of Archbishop Okpala and his driver.
