Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the National Assembly to ensure transparency and objectivity in the public hearing on President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.
He stressed that the reforms must serve the interests of all Nigerians and uphold fairness, equity, and inclusivity in shaping the nation’s economic future.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Atiku highlighted the need for an open process that involves diverse stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations, traditional institutions, public officials, and economic experts.
“Nigerians are united in their call for a fiscal system that promotes justice, fairness, and equity.
“The fiscal system we seek must not deepen the uneven development among federating units by disproportionately favoring some states while penalizing others,” he wrote.
He emphasized the importance of aligning the bills with the resolutions of the National Economic Council, which provides economic advice to the President, to ensure coherence and effectiveness.
Atiku further urged the National Assembly to make the public hearing process inclusive and participatory, adding that transparency and objectivity are critical for fostering accountability, good governance, and public trust in policy-making.
“The final outcome of these bills must address the needs of the majority of Nigerians while promoting national equity and development,” he concluded.
