The Federal Government has announced plans to regulate and license players in Nigeria’s space sector to drive economic growth.

Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, made the announcement during the inauguration of the Advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Laboratory at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), in Abuja.

Nnaji highlighted that satellite technology could help address illegalities in sectors like oil and gas, boosting economic development.

NASRDA Director-General Matthew Adepoju emphasized the agency’s progress in space research and the importance of collaboration with other ministries to turn research into valuable products and services.

The new laboratory, marking Nigeria’s 25th anniversary in space, will focus on unmanned aerial vehicle research and local content development.

This regulatory move is expected to attract investment, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a global space industry player.
