The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has refunded N4.4 billion to Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Armed Forces.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement by NAHCON spokesman Muhammad Musa.

The refund follows the failure of Saudi authorities to provide adequate electricity services during the 2023 Hajj, particularly in the Masha’ir (core Hajj) period.

NAHCON said the payment is intended to compensate Nigerian pilgrims for the inconvenience they endured.

Additionally, NAHCON reimbursed N917.1 million to 192 accredited tour operators who participated in the 2023 Hajj.

Musa noted that further refunds to other participating companies will follow after reconciliation.

This gesture underscores NAHCON’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims and ensuring they receive appropriate redress for any challenges faced during the annual pilgrimage.
