The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has committed to enrolling 8,000 out-of-school children in his constituency with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
This pledge was made during the launch of an enrollment campaign at Sabuwar Dalam Primary School in Miga Local Government Area.
Dangyatin explained that the initiative follows a recent agreement between state lawmakers and UNICEF, aimed at addressing the challenges revealed by the organization’s findings on out-of-school children in Jigawa.
“Our commitment starts today with an initial 300 children from Sabuwar Dalam village, as part of a broader effort to enroll 8,000 children,” he stated.
The campaign will include awareness programs on the importance of education and the provision of learning materials such as uniforms, bags, and exercise books, in addition to efforts to improve the learning environment.
