The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has rolled out a comprehensive security operation to safeguard Abuja residents and visitors throughout the festive season.
The initiative, which commenced on Monday, is a strategic response to combat crimes such as one-chance operations, illegal motor parks, and street begging—activities that often escalate during the holiday period.
Led by the Command and Control Centre, the operation is set to run until January 2024.
Adamu Gwary, Director of the FCTA Security Service Department, emphasized that the operation’s primary objective is to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the season’s festivities to carry out illicit activities.
Gwary’s message was conveyed by Peter Olumuji, the Secretary of the Command and Control Centre, who underscored the importance of the initiative.
The operation has already yielded significant results. In a recent crackdown on Wednesday, several suspects were apprehended, and vehicles were impounded, with a focus on curbing illegal street activities.
Seven beggars were also detained for violating the ban on street begging, reinforcing the FCTA’s commitment to a cleaner, safer city.
Deborah Osho, Head of Operations at the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), revealed that the operation primarily targets evening and night hours, a time when one-chance criminals are most active.
With this initiative in place, the FCTA is ensuring a heightened sense of security and peace of mind for all who visit or live in the capital.
As the festive season approaches, residents can rest assured that the FCTA’s proactive measures will contribute to a safer Abuja, free from the usual seasonal disruptions.
