The Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ali Madaki, has strongly rejected attempts to oust him from his position, describing the move as a desperate and futile plot orchestrated by former NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Madaki’s defiance comes after the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) caucus sought to remove him, a move he claims was driven by the party’s “sacked national leadership,” which remains loyal to Kwankwaso.

In an exclusive interview, Madaki asserted that the action was rooted in “desperation taken too far,” and pointed out that the House of Representatives’ Standing Orders clearly prohibit the caucus from making such a change.

He cited Order 7, Rule 14, which states that only a majority vote by the member parties in the House can initiate a leadership change.

Madaki also questioned the legitimacy of those backing the push to remove him, stressing that many of them were not bona fide NNPP members, especially after a recent court ruling that ousted Kwankwaso and his allies from the party.

“Based on the court judgment, Kwankwaso is not a member of the NNPP,” he emphasized.

Despite the pressure, Madaki remained confident and unbothered by what he called “propaganda tactics.”

He further assured that the current leadership of NNPP, under Chief Boniface Aniebonam, would soon clarify the party’s stance on the matter.

The brewing conflict reflects deeper divisions within the NNPP, following recent leadership changes and internal power struggles, leaving the party’s future direction uncertain.

Madaki’s defiance signals his resolve to hold onto his position, despite the mounting tensions.
