The Knights of St. John International (KSJI), Abuja Grand Commandery, have demonstrated the seamless integration of health and spirituality through their “Trekking for Christ” initiative.
Held recently and hosted by the 12 Apostles Commandery 696, the 7-kilometer trek across Abuja brought together members of KSJI and their Ladies Auxiliary (LAUX) in a vibrant display of faith and fitness.
Representing the Grand President, Brig. General Bona Ugwuja, the 1st Vice Grand President, Col. Rufus Ebegba, described the trek as a testament to the group’s holistic approach to life.
“This trek strengthens both body and soul, reinforcing our mission to live out our faith while staying physically fit. It’s been a refreshing experience for all participants,” he said.
Lady Florence Chuke, Grand Respected President of LAUX, highlighted the evangelistic impact of the initiative. “As we walk through the streets, people notice us, ask questions, and often become interested in joining our mission.
“This is a practical way to spread the Gospel while prioritizing our health,” she stated.
Sir Austin Ijere, Worthy President of 12 Apostles Commandery 696, emphasized the importance of consistency.
“This trek, coupled with health check-ups and social games, demonstrates our commitment to evangelization and wellness. We intend to sustain this initiative and expand its reach,” he noted.
On his part, a Veteran KSJI member, Honorable Sir Chembas Okoye lauded the inclusivity of the event, noting the participation of members across all age groups.
“Seeing our senior members actively join the trek is inspiring. It underscores the enduring commitment of KSJI to service, health, and spirituality,” he remarked.
With plans to hold the event quarterly, KSJI Abuja Grand Commandery continues to set an example of how physical health and spiritual growth can harmonize to create a more fulfilling life.
Through activities like this, the Knights and Ladies Auxiliary reaffirm their dedication to God, humanity, and holistic well-being.
This initiative not only showcases KSJI’s ethos of service and evangelization but also offers a unique approach to addressing life’s challenges with faith, fitness, and fellowship.
The trek had security agencies, experts, Road Safety officers and a vibrant medical team on ground till the end of the event.
