Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on China to ramp up its aid to Nigeria, emphasizing the immense potential the country offers for development and economic growth.

Speaking on Tuesday during a historic meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, Akpabio urged China to strengthen its financial support for Africa, with a focus on Nigeria.

Akpabio highlighted the need for greater collaboration between Nigeria and China, noting that while trade relations have flourished, aid flows have seen a decline in recent years under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He appealed for a reversal of this trend, stressing that Nigeria’s wealth of resources and vibrant culture positions it as a key partner in China’s broader African strategy.

“Nigeria is a land of limitless opportunities; rich in resources, culture, and innovation,” Akpabio stated, calling for a deeper partnership to unlock these potentials and promote shared prosperity.

The Senate President’s appeal comes at a time when both nations are looking to expand their bilateral ties and explore new avenues for collaboration, including infrastructure development, technology transfer, and educational exchanges.

Akpabio’s remarks underscore Nigeria’s continued push for stronger global partnerships, with China seen as a crucial ally in its drive to bolster economic growth and development.
