A high-stakes blackmail trial involving French football star Paul Pogba and six individuals linked to him, including his brother, Mathias, kicks off in Paris on Tuesday.
The accused face serious charges of extortion, attempted blackmail, and kidnapping, all tied to a plot to extort millions of euros from the Juventus midfielder.
The case has rocked the football world, with shocking revelations involving three of Pogba’s childhood friends from his Parisian hometown, alongside his own brother.
In a chilling twist, Pogba alleges that he was forcibly taken by hooded men at gunpoint, demanding €13 million in exchange for “services rendered”, a claim he has vehemently pursued in both France and Italy since 2022.
The scandal escalated in August 2022 when Mathias Pogba posted explosive videos accusing his brother of bizarre actions, including casting spells on French teammate Kylian Mbappé.
These videos, condemned by Paul’s legal team, were seen as part of an elaborate extortion scheme.
Despite the tense family drama, the accused individuals, including Mathias, deny all charges.
Mathias is specifically charged with attempting to extort his brother, while the others face more severe charges, including forming a criminal gang.
As Pogba battles these legal challenges, the trial will shed light on how money, trust, and betrayal have torn apart personal and professional relationships, adding another layer to the midfielder’s troubled career.
