The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa State has recorded 113 gender-based violence (GBV) cases between January and mid-November, highlighting the persistent scourge of abuse in the region.

Nyako Hamid, the NSCDC spokesperson, revealed that the cases ranged from child trafficking and domestic violence to family abandonment and human trafficking.

Two perpetrators were successfully convicted under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law and the Penal Code, while another case remains in court.

The command also resolved several cases through mediation, particularly those involving family disputes.

Victims of trafficking were reunited with their families, underscoring the agency’s commitment to supporting survivors.

Hamid praised the Adamawa State Government and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for providing a forensic lab that has significantly enhanced investigations and prosecution efforts.

The NSCDC urged residents to report GBV cases promptly to ensure justice and prevent further harm.

“Ending gender-based violence is a shared responsibility. Let us stand together to protect the vulnerable,” the command appealed.

This surge in cases reinforces the urgent need for continued community engagement and enforcement of laws to curb GBV in Adamawa.
