The Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences has intensified its crackdown on illegal motorcyclists, impounding 128 motorcycles in a statewide operation aimed at restoring road order and ensuring public safety.

The operation, spearheaded by the Task Force Chairman, Adetayo Akerele, targeted commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as okada, who operate in prohibited areas or violate traffic regulations.

Akerele emphasized the need to address the growing disregard for traffic laws by some motorcyclists, which has contributed to road accidents and general disorder.

“The Lagos State Government has clearly banned commercial motorcycles in certain zones, yet some operators continue to flout these directives,” Akerele stated. “We remain committed to enforcing the law and holding offenders accountable.”

The impounded motorcycles are being held at the Task Force headquarters, with owners required to pay stipulated fines and undergo mandatory safety seminars before reclaiming their vehicles.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda to enhance road safety, alleviate traffic congestion, and promote compliance with traffic laws.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with the authorities in their efforts to maintain order and ensure the safety of all road users.
