To propel Nigeria’s energy transition, four top Nigerian celebrities and music icon; 2Face Idibia, lifestyle influencer Ola of Lagos, Northern sensation Rarara, and comedian Basketmouth, are heading to India to explore the country’s groundbreaking achievements in compressed natural gas (CNG).
The fact-finding mission, organized by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), aims to showcase how India has successfully integrated CNG into its transportation, domestic, and industrial sectors.
With millions of vehicles running on CNG and a robust infrastructure developed over 15 years, India serves as an inspiration for Nigeria’s CNG ambitions.
The influencers will document their journey, visiting conversion centers, refueling stations, and gas distribution hubs, providing Nigerians with a closer look at the potential of CNG as a cleaner, cost-effective energy alternative.
Joining the team is a representative of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Africa’s largest transport union, signaling broad-based support for the initiative.
“This isn’t just about technology; it’s about empowering Nigerians with knowledge. These cultural icons will help dispel doubts and foster public confidence in Nigeria’s energy transition,” Toyin Subair, Vice Chairman of PCNGI revealed.
Supported by Femadec Energy and Rolling Energy, the tour underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to learning from global success stories as it shifts away from costly fuel subsidies.
“Transparency is key,” said Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant (Digital/New Media) to President Bola Tinubu. “This initiative encourages Nigerians to engage with facts and embrace the benefits of CNG.”
As the influencers prepare to spotlight India’s achievements, the trip promises to ignite a national conversation about the future of clean energy in Nigeria.
