A nursing mother, Ashizie Wapmak, and her 18-year-old daughter, who were abducted by unknown gunmen at their residence in Kuruduma 3, Guzape area of the Federal Capital Territory, have regained their freedom.
The victims were kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday, November 16, 2024, and released on Thursday night after an undisclosed ransom was reportedly paid to the abductors.
Kuruduma 3 is located a short distance from the residence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the high-profile Asokoro area, home to many influential Nigerians.
The traumatic incident unfolded when the gunmen forcefully broke into the Wapmaks’ home, firing sporadically. Ashizie, who had delivered a baby just a week earlier, and her teenage daughter were taken by the assailants, leaving the family in shock.
Mr. Wapmak Emmanuel, the husband and father of the victims, narrowly escaped the attack. He revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million as ransom but later agreed to a lesser amount, which he declined to disclose.
As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command has not issued a statement regarding the incident. The abduction and subsequent release have heightened concerns over security in Abuja’s residential areas.
