The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the operations of Anti-Corruption Transparency Units (ACTU) across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), following concerns over persistent corruption.
In a resolution passed Thursday, lawmakers tasked the committees on public service matters, special duties, and national planning to invite the Head of Service to provide details for verifying civil servants’ records, specifically to track down offenders engaged in age falsification.
This probe follows two motions raised by Shehu Umar Ajilo and Yusuf Ahmed Badau.
Ajilo highlighted the establishment of ACTUs in 2001, 2003, and 2016 to combat corruption in MDAs. Despite these efforts, Ajilo expressed concern over ongoing corrupt practices.
Badau, stressing the critical role of civil servants in nation-building, called for urgent action on age falsification, citing alarming unemployment rates driven by the practice.
With Nigeria’s unemployment rate at 5.3%, the probe aims to hold offenders accountable and safeguard the integrity of the public service.
