Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian separatist and self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has been arrested in Finland on charges of terrorism-related activities.

The Central Criminal Police in Finland confirmed his arrest on Thursday, stating that Ekpa was detained on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.

The Päijät-Häme District Court has ordered his remand, and four others were arrested in connection with allegations of financing terrorist activities.

A police statement revealed, “The main suspect was arrested on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent, and the claims will be heard in Päijät-Häme District Court today, November 21.”

Ekpa’s arrest comes amid mounting pressure over his involvement in orchestrating the violent “Sit-At-Home” protests in Nigeria’s Southeast, which have disrupted economic activities and exacerbated regional unrest.

Known for using social media to promote his call for Biafran independence, Ekpa has been a highly controversial figure.

His activities have sparked calls from both Nigerian and Finnish authorities to take action against him, as many blame him for fueling the instability in the Southeast.

Finnish authorities have not released additional details on the case or the ongoing court proceedings.
