The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged N1.1 billion in compensation to victims affected by the construction of FCT Highway 105, which will connect the Airport Expressway to Kuje township.
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike made the announcement on Tuesday during an inspection of the project.
After reviewing the structures earmarked for demolition, Wike assured that the compensation package would be disbursed promptly to prevent any delays in the project.
“I came here to personally inspect the report on the valuation of compensation,” Wike said. “Upon receiving the file for approval, I felt it necessary to see for myself the types of structures that we will compensate for. The total estimate is about N1.1 billion, and we will ensure it’s made available so that the contractor has no excuse for delays.”
The compensation will cover the cost of properties, including residential and commercial buildings, situated within the road’s development corridor.
In addition to the compensation announcement, Wike also revealed the approval of a N70,000 minimum wage for FCT workers, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving living standards in the region.
Wike also inspected other infrastructure projects, including the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal Complex and its access road in Dakibiyu, Jabi District.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the work, assuring that the project would be completed by September 2025.
“I’m very impressed with what we saw this afternoon,” Wike said regarding the court complex. “By September next year, we believe the contractor will have handed over the structure, which will house the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.”
The FCT Minister commended the contractor for maintaining steady progress and meeting deadlines for the construction of the access road to the court complex.
