Businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has endorsed former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha’s call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in detention since 2021.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Cubana Chief Priest shared a video of Okorocha’s tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, where Okorocha urged the federal government to release Kanu as a gesture to honour Ubah’s legacy.
In his post, Cubana Chief Priest echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that freeing Kanu is essential for peace and unity in Nigeria’s Southeast region, which has been plagued by unrest.
Addressing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, he wrote: “Those pleas from Owelle Ndi Igbo are all we ask for our dear in-law. Let Ohamadike Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, come back home soon.”
Cubana Chief Priest further lamented the challenges faced by the Igbo people due to Kanu’s detention, particularly the restricted access to their homeland and the ongoing instability in the region.
“It’s been almost five years now; we still cannot access our hometown. Only his release can restore peace to our region.
“We’ve lost many lives and properties. We need to rebuild the South-East ASAP. Make una help us,” he appealed.
During his tribute, Okorocha also urged Senate President Akpabio to champion the cause of Kanu’s release on behalf of the Igbo people.
The call aligns with long-standing demands from groups such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and Kanu’s supporters, who have persistently pressured the government to address the issue.
Kanu’s detention since June 2021 has sparked widespread controversy, with many in the Southeast arguing that his release is critical to restoring stability and fostering reconciliation in the region.
