The Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has hit back at the Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo over his criticism of the current administration.
Speaking at Yale University, Obasanjo labeled Tinubu’s government as corrupt and accused Nigeria’s political elite of manipulating national resources for personal gain.
In a fiery response on Monday, Dare challenged Obasanjo’s moral authority, alleging that his presidency was marred by corruption and mismanagement.
“Former President Obasanjo ran a government that spent $16 billion on power infrastructure, yet Nigerians were left in darkness. Up till now, there’s no explanation for the colossal waste, and that’s just one example of his administration’s failings,” Dare stated.
Dare also accused Obasanjo of undermining democracy, referencing the controversial third-term agenda during his tenure.
“Democracy suffered mortal wounds under his watch, leaving successive governments, including Tinubu’s, to clean up the mess he left behind,” he said.
Dare dismissed Obasanjo’s remarks as insincere, adding, “Instead of pulling down his successors, Obasanjo should reflect on his contribution to Nigeria’s challenges and apologise to the nation.”
He reiterated Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and invited Obasanjo to acknowledge the administration’s progress.
